New Year's Eve brawl

New Year’s Eve in Pattaya is the time when everybody just wants to have fun, drink till you drop kind of thing. During the 2004 - 2005 New Year’s Eve, nightclubs were allowed to open all night long. But the Thai government has cancelled the countdown event at Bali high, due of the fact that just a week before New Year’s Eve southern Thailand was hit with Tidal waves (Tsunami). Nevertheless, the night was still a crazy one.

Loads of people were out to celebrate along Beach road and Walking Street in south Pattaya. After much of walking around, I got into Lucifer nightclub. It’s in the middle of Walking Street. It has life band performing in front, and a cave like pathway to get inside where the music is more of hip-hop, r & b and clubhouse. It’s pretty cool.

Although the place was packed full with people that you can hardly walk, I had my share of fun. Drinking and dancing with my group of friends. At about 2 or 3 am, an unexpected event happened. A drunken Farang (“Farang” is a Thai word for foreigner mostly with white skin) touched a girl’s butt. She stopped and turned to slap him.

He then started pushing and fighting with her. Soon after that, about 4 security guards rushed to the dancing floor to stop the fight. This Farang was not calming down and pushed the security guys away. To control the situation one of the security guy swung a beer bottle onto the Farang’s head. He was bleeding badly! They took him out of the club and that was it.

I have no idea what happened to this Farang. Not long after that, everybody was back to the dancing floor and continued as if nothing has happened.

I don’t know whether what the security guards did was the right thing to do. But I'm sure the Farang was way too drunk, probably must have mistaken the girl for a prostitute. Even if she was a prostitute, touching her butt is not really a way to approach.

I know that a brawl like this in a club is nothing unusual here in Thailand. I’ve heard of one incident where a guy stepped on the foot of son of some high rank government official. And he was shot dead right on the spot, just because of this.
