Why Thailand? From a Happy Expatriate.
Why are so many men fleeing their native countries to live in Thailand? What does Thailand have that attracts these men? I say “men” because I see very few single farang females living here. It’s more likely a combination of factors, low cost of living, relatively low level of crime, affordable housing, and easy access to transportation along with Thai women. Let’s talk about Thai women. Western women seem to hate Thailand and are jealous of the women. I notice more and more overweight farang women on TV and visiting here waddling down the street. They can be detected miles away by their scowls, loud voices and lack of respect. But luckily they can be easily spotted and avoided. They think the men who come here can’t deal with “strong” Western women. Ha! All I’ve seen in my life in the States are that American women are high-strung, high-maintenance, rude, fat, clumsy and neurotic. There seem to be no real ladies left, ladies meaning women who like, respect and appreciate men. Anger, resentment and neediness seem to be the main driving factors of American women. If these sad women were a “tiny minority” why all the horror stories from divorced men who lost their house and children? Why is the divorce rate 60%? Not all of the expatriates are deluded or crazy. If there are decent, nice, attractive ladies available I and my friends never saw them. It’s not just the available bar-girls and “pay for play” scene. Thai women are just damn pleasant, feminine and attractive. Are men who come here losers? Well, if you simply want to trash all expats there are plenty of loud, boorish, sloppy crude men to see. What is ignored are the fit, relatively sober, well-groomed, decent men in LOS. I see them walking happily down the Soi with their Thai wife and beautiful children. Well enough about Western females. Life in Thailand is just plain damn present. A man gets ups in his affordable nice room either in Bangkok or Pattaya or upcountry. If in Bangkok he can take the excellent Skytrain or subway system for fast, safe, efficient transportation to destinations within the system. He can choose from thousands of places to eat, from humble noodle carts to fancy restaurants. He’s greeted with a wai and a smile most of the time and is served tasty food that’s well-cooked and inexpensive. His choice of entertainment is vast; in Bangkok besides the obvious nightclub scene are several fine music venues such as “Saxophone Café” and “Tokyo Joe’s”. The “Thailand Cultural Center” often has world-class classical music at nominal costs in an auditorium with great acoustics. Cinemas are state of the art, clean, well-maintained with reserved seating, no long queues, pushing or shoving. Most Thais respect themselves and others; if a Thai bumps into you they turn and immediately apologize. Of course there’re the disadvantages which most expatriates acknowledge. The unremitting heat, mosquitoes, filth in some areas, uncollected trash and Thai concept of timeliness and accountability. But despite this the amenities outweigh the drawbacks. I and other expatriates feel at home for the first time in our lives. Submitted by : Claw 04-June-06 Related Stories Yes, You Can Find True Love in Pattaya!
