The treasures of Walking Street during the day

Most people go to Walking Street in the evening to check-out this hotspot of night-spots in Pattaya. Walking Street is famous the world over for providing just what is wanted for the single male. Whether you are looking for a beer-bar with girls, a music venue with girls, a restaurant (with girls), a go-go bar……. You will find it on or around Walking Street in Pattaya.

The neon lights at night show you what’s on offer, as do the ladies outside each establishment trying to get you into their bar, entertainment or whatever. They are all very tempting with their lovely smiles and offers of cheap drinks.

Walking Street is an international affair. You may well end up at night sitting next to someone from England or the Emirates, Australia or Austria, Sweden or Switzerland, India or Indonesia in what ever bar, restaurant or entertainment you are in, and you will realise that this is a truly cosmopolitan city.

Everyone talks to each other in a sort of ‘pidgin’ English (English being Thailand’s second language), and you quickly forget all the grammar you learned at school. The Thai girls in Pattaya speak varying versions of this too, some quite fluently, and many as monosyllabically as your own Thai equivelent. This does not seem to matter as all these people with different languages get along fine. “Mai mi ban ha” (no problem) is the answer to nearly everything here in Pattaya. Everyone stays happy so no minor problems are allowed to get in the way.

So, having taken your particular ‘treasure’ home to your hotel room when the party finishes at 2.00 a.m. or so, you will probably have missed a few treasures of the orient, in static poses, on your trip to Walking Street.

Were you looking at all the girls? Did you take a peek into every bar to check out the talent lying therein? Did you watch the Muay Thai boxing for a bit or the ‘European Girls’ dancing above you? Did you check-out all the other walkers who were doing exactly the same as you?

The answer is very possibly “Yes”.

Most people who go to Walking Street at night miss the real treasures.

Going there during the day is an entirely different experience. Whilst everyone else is sleeping off there hangovers this is the place to come if you have lots of money and love antiques and quality jewellery.

Various really up-market shops have genuine and wonderful jade carvings, wooden boats of fabulously intricate design and craftsmanship, enormous pottery urns and of course Buddha images. The jewellery shops are of a rarefied quality and are for the serious buyer.

Next time you walk along Walking Street at night, having read this, you may occasionally glance away from the girls and, perhaps, you will see some of Pattaya`s real treasures in the windows of the shops. Or perhaps your own ‘treasure’ is worth her weight in gold.
