Quiet beaches around Pattaya

Pattaya Beach is great fun. The swathe of sand running the whole length of Beach Road with its vendors is very popular. You can have a great day there for 20 baht, which is what it will cost you for a deck-chair. However at the same time you can sit in the shade and feel the sea breezes.

The beach vendors will supply you all day with necessities like more ice for your beer, food of any sort brought to you from across the road, with the relevant glasses, plates and cutlery, which are miraculously removed when you’ve finally finished.

On Pattaya beach you can watch the jet-skiers, the swimmers, the para-sailors and of course the girls. Just sometimes though, possibly when you’ve been here for a bit, you may prefer a rather quieter beach. There are quite a few to choose, but it depends how far you want to travel.

Many people go to Jomtien (over the hill from South Pattaya) for the better water, and the further down the beach you go the quieter it gets. Of course there are fewer facilities, but you will find a much quieter environment and there is always someone close at hand to supply some drinks or food.

There are also a couple of secluded beaches on the Jomtiem peninsular, which are easy to find if you have a street map. Many of these beaches are next to large hotel and condo developments, but the beaches are certainly not private.

You will find the usual range of Thai food and drink along with the occasional Western food place. Just follow the road until you see the sea and walk down the steps. These beaches can be a lot more private than the main ones.

To the north of Pattaya Beach you will find lots of little beaches the other side of the promontory in North Pattaya. Like the small beaches of Jomtien but probably quieter, there are a lot of hotels fronting these beaches with plenty of public access and beach restaurants and vendors.

All of the above you can get to on a Baht Bus (10/40 baht depending on distance), a motorbike –taxi or under your own steam.

For seriously quieter beaches, take a ferry from Bali Hi pier, leaving every ½ hour to Koh Larn (Coral Island) and there is a large choice of different types of beaches including some which ban motor boats.

If you rent a car try the beaches between Sattahip and Rayong. It’s only 40 minutes and you may find one of the many beaches to yourselves (except for the vendors). Ban Sang is particularly popular with Thais and their families.

You don’t have to travel far out of Central Pattaya to get into the Real Thailand, and this is especially so of the beaches.

Beach in North pattaya has to be the cleanest beach in Pattaya. For more beautiful beaches drive a bit further to rayong
