Thai Massage in Pattaya may not be what you think.

In the Western world the concept of a ‘Thai massage’ has unfortunately been blown out of all proportion by pornographic images of Thai girls in overtly sexual poses. OK this does happen in some specialist venues (or in your hotel room), but a real Thai massage is a very different thing.

Usually undertaken by middle-aged matrons this is an experience the Thai’s enjoy regularly, as do the tourists. You can have one on the beach; you can get one at the market; you can go into a choice of hundreds of Thai massage shops and you will get a foot massage, head massage or a full body massage.

This takes about 2 hours to do properly and your masseuse, be she old or young, will concentrate on pushing, pulling and kneading your muscles according to a tradition which goes back a couple of thousand years. It is very relaxing and many visitors have one every day whilst they’re here.

The quality of the masseuses here in Pattaya is high and many of the younger ones boast many qualifications, whilst the older ones have more experience.

They are taught to use their thumbs and palms on some of the 70,000 pressure points on the body, and to use bending and twisting movements similar to yoga.

Some of these can be a little uncomfortable but you will feel great afterwards. This massage is very much focused on the muscles, rather than joints or sensitive areas. A body massage will cost you between 200 and 300 baht for an hour or so.

Thai Massage

An oil massage is similar and can be very sensual. This treatment uses therapeutic oils to get under the skin leaving you with a truly relaxed feeling. You will need a shower afterwards though.

Foot massage is hugely popular in Thailand and can be seen advertised all over Pattaya, particularly on the corner of South Pattaya Road and Walking Street where there are many massage establishments.

Anywhere you go whether it’s to the market, an event out of Pattaya such as the autumn boat-races, or even in the Soi (street) where you are staying, you can get a relaxing foot massage. These last about an hour and will usually cost you around 200 baht.

Many of the Thai massage shops do not offer ‘extras’ for single men but many do if you ask. You may, in some, be given a different masseuse who specialises in this, some have many. Just ask. They may be amused but they won’t be offended and may even recommend another shop which can help you.

The very different ‘soapy massage’ is an entirely separate type of massage and can be found elsewhere in this website. (The Pleasures of Thai Body Massage) It is an interesting experience!
